Do skinny people make more money?

Very simply, they do.

The healthier you are, the wealthier you will become, at least according to a study published in the American Journal of Public Health (1). Examining the link between health and wealth in wealthy countries found that healthier people are more productive on the job, make more money, and spend more days working because they do not take as much sick time.

A population-based survey was performed on this topic, that included 2314 men and 2068 women based on income data from a taxation register. They used regression analysis to calculate mean income levels within these educational and occupational groups.

Obese women in upper white-collar positions or those with higher education had significantly lower incomes, compared to their normal-weight counterparts. Overweight women with secondary education, as well as manual workers also reported an income disadvantage. Too bad that there were no income disadvantages in men with regards to excess body weight (except among the overly obese).

An analysis noted in the Journal of Socio-Economics (2) suggested that self-employed obese women also receive strikingly lower income in customer-oriented jobs. Thereby, implicating that the pay difference does not come from employer discrimination but from the general perception of the public of obese women.

Individuals, families and the economy see huge returns from an investment in health. This is something that deserves everyone is consideration. Exercise and healthy eating improve blood flow to the brain. If you want more money and more success, then the very first steps should be incorporating exercise and a regular diet into your schedule.

Here is a quick question for you. Have you ever been at work and eaten a very unhealthy lunch or snack while sitting at your desk? Most people have. Let us talk about this. Did you feel lazy or unexcited about work or uninspired? You probably did. However, if you ate a healthy lunch and went for a walk, you would come back rejuvenated, thinking in a positive way, and thinking clearly.
