Open Question: What is the empirical evidence of a biological/genetic component to Bipolar Disorder?
People keep saying twin studies, but all that says to me is that the closer the environment two people share, the more likely they will end up with similar symptoms. That’s why I would like to see an isolated/separated at birth twins experiment, but have yet to come across one. And I know that if a biological/genetic component can’t be proven than it can’t be said that this is a permanent genetic defect…

Open Question: Any Bipolar people on here?
At last, my GP has written to a psychologist/therapist (something like that anyway!) asking for an assessment for Bipolar Disorder. Big Yips coz I have been waiting years for someone to take me seriously and listen! I was on a high and I knew I was heading for a downer, feeling edgier blah blah and one day I cut my wrists at work and my seniors found me sitting and rocking on the floor talking rubbish and staring into space! I just completely blanked the whole world out and went into my own little space bubble. When I’m not high or low I often hear people saying my name and I look round and I’m in an empty room, on an empty bus etc.. when I was in a bad way after cutting my wrists I heard someone asking if i was ok and I was on my own in the room! I also see a black shape/figure out of the corner of my eye, I know it is only a hallucination and have got used to it! Do any of you recognise these symptoms as Bipolar?? Get the extreme highs and extreme lows, buy loads of stuff I don’t need, e.g. woke up and thought I would move to Ireland so bought loads of Gaelic cds, same about Romania, bought loads of Romanian language stuff etc..!! Just crap I would never use normally!!! Any help and words of encourageent would be LUSH!!! Thanks

Resolved Question: What would my psychiatrist think if i were to tell him about my craving of blood?
Yes im serious, crave blood, i dont know why. its been going on for a long time now, i slowly started eating undercooked meat, now today i ate rare steak, adn now i just wnat to open up cold raw meat from the fridge and eat it. I just crave it so bad like i NEED it.
I see a psychiatrist for free for a mental illness of bipolar disorder with psychotic symptoms. Now before you start being rude saying “its cuz you’re crazy” its not. im kinda nervous to tell my psychiatrist though because im very scared he’ll think im unstable and put me in a psychiatric hospital
the reason im asking what he’d think is because i’d hope he can find out why i crave it because im very tight on money and see him for free due to my financial situation. im 19 years old
